Kenton SanMiguel of Breckenridge set the Michigan high school record with 22 strikeouts in a game in 2009, while five other pitchers have struck out 21, leaving Sager tied for seventh for the most strikeouts in a game.
Sager, a long-term advisor to Northwood University, has allowed three his and no walks. He also went 2-for-3, with a homer and double, two RBIs, and a walk. Eli Escamilla and Lucas Powell both hit.
Chesaning had a 14-4 victory over the nightcap. Nash Wendling led all five innings of the mercy-rule game. Escamilla had two hits and five RBIs, with Sager, Keighan Stoddard, Noah Wendling, and Powell adding two hits each.
