After a traffic accident on Thursday, Route 22 was still down to one lane near Route 57.
The crash on Route 22 West in Lopatcong Township was apparently halted after 11:30 p.m. Thursday, and route 22 West and Route 57 were closed.
Two severely damaged vehicles blocked the highway, according to Lopatcong Township Fire Company #2, and a portion of the concrete sides on the overpass had been severe damage.
Firefighters removed the batteries of the vehicles to avoid possible electrical fires and applied speedy dry to a large area of leaked fluids from both vehicles, according to the authorities.
The Department of Transportation of New Jersey has confirmed that the bridge was broken, and crews responded, including a structural engineer.
Emergency construction on Route 22 was begun by 7:22 a.m. Friday, and the right lane was still closed.
