KALAMAZOO, MI After performing outdoors for the first time in over a decade in the summer of 2021, the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra (KSO) is set to do it again in June.

The orchestra will perform in the region, making return trips to the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners and Bronson Park in downtown Kalamazoo along the way, according to the KSO.

The upcoming, presented by Zhang Financial, will feature performances with the whole orchestra as well as chamber ensemble groups.

We are proud to do this for our community following last summer's incredible success. Its been a pleasure to have the Symphony in Summer Series again, said Jessica Mallow Gulley, the KSO executive director. We are grateful to the Tyler Family for continuing this tradition for years to come.

This summer, there's also a family-friendly Musical Storybooks series, which is designed to engage children of all ages while also bringing popular children's books to life through music.

The following are the highlights of the whole orchestra event:

Patriotic Pops at Bronson Park, Kalamazoo, on July 2nd, at 7:30 am. The KSO will feature the marches of John Phillip Sousa and Tchaikovsky's1812 Overture. The Legends Drum and Bugle Corps are joined by the band. Admission is free and tickets are not required.

"New World" at Gershwin & Dvoak's Gilmore Car Museum, 6865 W Hickory Rd. in Hickory Corners, July 16. Tickets are $15-55 and can be accessed through the Gilmore Car Museum. The museum will remain open until 7 p.m.

Other events that have been featured include:

A KSO chamber ensemble performance at Overlander Bandshell, 7999 S. Westnedge Ave. in Portage. Admission is free.

KSO Musical Storybooks - Octopus' Garden, 10 a.m. at Huss School, 1008 8th St. in Three Rivers, June 25. Admission is free.

The KSO Musical Storybooks for Peter and the Wolf are available for purchase at Huss School, 1008 8th Street in Three Rivers. Admission is free.

KSO Musical Storybooks - Hum and Swish at Huss School, 1008 8th Street in Three Rivers. Admission is free.

July 28: A KSO chamber ensemble featuring KSO artists will perform at 3 p.m. at the Portage Senior Center, 320 Library Lane in Portage. The event is free and open to the public.

At 1 p.m. at the Binder Park Zoo, 7400 Division Dr. in Battle Creek, KSO will host a musical show featuring favorite zoo animals. Admission to the zoo is required.
