Authorities said two children from London, England, were seriously hurt when their SUV was stolen on the Garden State Parkway on Thursday.

According to New Jersey State Police, the crash occurred at 2:40 p.m. in the southbound lanes near milepost 97.3 in Wall Township.

Curry said in a preliminary interview that a Toyota Sienna and a Honda Accord were traveling southbound on the GSP when the two vehicles were involved in a sideswipe collision.

The Honda sped off the road to the left and struck two guardrail posts. Curry said the driver was not hurt.

The Toyota ran off the road to the left and was broken, throwing a 5-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl out of the vehicle.

Police said the children were seriously injured and transported to a local hospital. Three other passengers, all from London, were also minor injuries.

"The three left lanes of the GSP were closed for four hours, resulting in significant traffic congestion. The cause of the crash remains under investigation," Curry said.
