In connection with the baby's abduction, a mother of an infant who was subjected to an Amber Alert has been accused.
Alexis Richards, 22, is accused of ingesting with custody in the case. It is a felony crime.
According to Dothan police, Richards and a male companion, Mauquez Banks, took Messiah just before noon Wednesday. The child had been placed at a location in the 400 block of South Appletree Street as part of a safety plan developed several days earlier.
Richards was only allowed supervised visitation.
According to authorities on Wednesday, Richards and Banks went to the house where the child had been unannounced and unplanned, and took the child without the help of the current father.
Police were informed and quickly gathered what they needed to get an Amber Alert issued. Messiah was later in the day in Midland City with Richards and another family member.
In no way had the baby been detained.
Dothan police worked with several law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, the Dale County Sheriff's Department, the Ozark Police Department, the Troy Police Department, the Midland City Police Department, the ALEA, and the Alabama Fusion Center.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities fear that Banks might also face charges.
Richards remains imprisoned in the Houston County jail.
