Eufaula 2023 DL/LB Yhonzae Pierre commits to Alabama as an 'Impact player.' ...

Ed Rigby, the head coach of Eufaula High, used two words to describe how good linebacker Yhonzae Pierre might be in college.

Impact player.

The 6-foot-4, 231-pound Pierre was drafted into Alabama on Thursday morning, picking the Tide over Florida State, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Florida, Penn State, Mississippi State, and Auburn.

"He is a high-motor, output player. He has the range, height, arm length, the wide shoulders, and football IQ. When you combine all of that together you have a big-time high school player, Lord willing, and a big-time college player."

Pierre received 55 tackles, including 16 for a loss, and seven sacks for the Tigers in 2021.

The Crimson Tide's second year in the class is accompanied by Jahlil Hurley, who has joined Florence DB, and his third overall.

Rigby said he had coached similar players to Pierre, but he does not like to compete with other athletes. He said Pierre was certainly a "upper-level SEC player."

"He's a guy you must play against," Rigby said. "We use him all over the place. We bring him off the edge, up the middle, and allow him to cover people. That's the type of player they are getting.

Rigby said that Eufaula would make offense use of Pierre some at the tight end or in the slot.

He's got great hands, he said.

Jimmy Stein, an Alabama ON3 recruiting analyst, believes Pierre is a versatile front seven defender.

"He's been described as an edge defender, but he's quite rangy," Stein said. "He might play off the ball, but he's at his best in rushing the pass and setting that edge in the run game.

"He's a great performer in Alabama, because he's a physical player."

Pierre is a close friends with Courtney Upshaw, a former Alabama standout.

That makes him the top 90 prospects in the country, Stein said. That makes him the elite. He's the 10th best prospect in Alabama in a historically populated in-state class. Alabama is his dream school, and his front seven is like a dream.

Alabama offered Pierre to Stein a year ago.

God i thank you for this blessing. I also wish you all my parents, families, teachers, and coaches for providing me with the assistance I need. I've found my new home and am currently working on the University of Alabama. Roll Tide Roll
