Zelensky Visited The Only Survivor Of The Plane Crash Near Kharkiv
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky visited cadet Vyacheslav Zolochevsky in the hospital, the only survivor of the crash of the An-26 military transport plane in the Kharkiv region, according to the website of the office of the Ukrainian President.
"Vyacheslav told Vladimir Zelensky that everything happened very quickly, and it was unclear what was happening. According to him, the cadets and the crew were familiar and had already flown together," the report says. According to doctors, the cadet's condition is moderate.
Zelensky later said that Zolochevsky regained consciousness in the middle of the wreckage of the crashed plane, after which he was able to put out the fire on another cadet, who, however, later died in hospital. Zelensky called his action "heroism in the middle of the field of death."
According to the preliminary version, the crash of the An-26 occurred due to the failure of one of the sensors in the left engine of the aircraft, during landing, the plane caught on the ground with its wing. There were 20 cadets and seven crew members on board. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said it would pay more than $55,700 in compensation to the families of the victims.
Vladimir Zelensky declared September 26 a day of mourning in connection with the tragedy.
