FLINT, MIA preliminary examination for a Flint Township man accused of neglecting eight dogs he has since surrendered to the county is scheduled.

On Wednesday, March 2, Genesee District Court Judge Jennifer J. Manley will hear evidence against Christopher Earl-Loren Hatchett in relation to one count of killing/torturing animals and one count of abandoning/cruelty to 4-10 animals.

A preliminary inquiry, often referred to as a probable cause hearing, requires prosecutors to convince the judge that there is probable cause for the crimes they accuse Hatchett.

Following a probable cause conference on Thursday, February 24, the hearing was scheduled.

Hatchett has been accused of having left eight dogs tied up for over a week, leaving them malnourished and dehydrated.

One of the dogs, a 2-year-old Pitbull-mix named Thrax, had become tangled with his leash until blood was cut off from one of his legs. The leg was later amputated.

Officials with the Genesee County Sheriff's Office organized a press conference on February 15 and asked for the public's help finding Hatchett. Few than three hours after the news conference, Hatchett was detained after being discovered hiding in the trunk of a vehicle during a traffic stop, according to authorities.
