Russian Foreign Ministry Condemns The US Calls To Create A Coalition Against Nord Stream 2
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on us Secretary of state Mike Pompeo's statements about plans to create a coalition against the construction of Nord Stream 2. According to her, Moscow condemns these actions and believes that Washington really wants to occupy the Western European gas market.
"We condemn calls to create a coalition against the pipeline, in which German and other companies have already invested billions of dollars… Such statements made by the US Secretary of state only record the true intentions of Washington, which seeks to occupy the Western European gas market by uncompetitive means," Ms. Zakharova told reporters.
Earlier, Mr. Pompeo, in an interview with Bild, announced plans to create a coalition that would oppose the completion of the gas pipeline. He hopes that the project will not be completed. As a reminder, companies involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2 have been under US extraterritorial sanctions since 2019. After the German authorities announced the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny, the European Parliament also called for a halt to the construction of the pipeline. Director Of the foreign intelligence service (SVR) Sergey Naryshkin believes that the activity on the situation with Mr. Navalny is aimed at stopping the project.
