In the biopic, Stephan James will play Jean-Michel Basquiat ...

In a limited TV drama from Boat Rocker and James and Shamier Anderson's Bay Mills Studios, an actor is expected to play as iconic artist Jean-Michel Basquiat.

As Basquiat transitions from being an obscure graffiti artist born in Brooklyn to becoming a rock-star artist in Manhattan, the scripted series will focus on Basquiat's close connection with Andy Warhol and his early death.

"We're grateful to be working with Shamier, Stephan, and the entire Bay Mills Studios family to tell the story of a visionary artist who only continues to grow with time," Steve Lescroart, president of Boat Rocker Studios, said in a statement.

James and Anderson have a first-look deal with Boat Rocker through their Bay Mills Studios banner. James is also starring in Boat Rocker's hit sci-fi drama Invasion for Apple TV+, which was recently renewed for a second season.

"Jean-Michel is an artist I have long loved, and a person who has greatly improved my work over the years." In his own statement, James said, "To embody such a revolutionary, who is beyond limitation, will be simply one of my greatest honors of my career."

Katie O'Connell Marsh and Nick Nantell directed the untitled Basquiat project at Boat Rocker, along with Anderson and James for Bay Mills Studios. Holly Hubsher is responsible for the project at Bay Mills Studios.

CAA, Range Media Partners, and Norbert Abrams have repped James.
