MI: A YMCA summer camp in Kalamazoo County will become sensory enriching.

According to a news release from the YMCA, the Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center is working with KultureCity, a nonprofit that helps people with invisible disabilities and sensory accessibility difficulties.

Sherman Lake is the first YMCA in the country to work with KultureCity, according to the release. The organization assists people with sensory needs and provides sensory spaces that provide a break.

The staff have completed a training and an assessment that apprehensive them on sensory needs, according to the release. The YMCA now has sensory bags on hand to assist people manage sensory overload.

CultureeCity is partnering with educators to prepare them for camp, according to the release.

According to the release, KultureCity often collaborates with first responders to offer them training that focuses on understanding, acceptance, and empathy for people with sensory difficulties.

The Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center, located at 6225 N. 39th Street near Augusta, is planning a variety of summer camps for children aged 4 to 17.
