The short film 'Winter's Light' by James Lee Burke is set in the American West's snowy mountains. Sandra Guidry, a Black professor living and working in a rural college town, discovers a mysterious red truck parked in her driveway, and soon discovers it belongs to a pair of local hunters. Sandra also discovers her own self-interest, putting her most profound beliefs to the test.
In a recent bidding conflict, Higgins adapted the script with Shaye Ogbonna, and directed alongside Halee Bernard, Cold Iron Pictures' CEO, Amanda Marshall, and Anthony Ciardelli, as well as Jason Beck's executive producer. In addition to the film, IFC Films has acquired public theatrical rights.
Higgins is a Los Angeles-based filmmaker who previously modified 'Winter's Light' into a short film of the same name called the Oscar. His shorts have screened around the globe and won dozens of awards, including the gold medal Student Academy Award, two Student Emmy Awards, and the grand prize of Ron Howard's "Project Imagination."
Higgins has also worked in television, making his limited screen directing debut with one of the final episodes of House, and more recently executive producing and directing the second and third seasons of the mystery series Guidance, which is now available on Apple TV+. The New Hampshire native has a BFA in Film from Emerson College, and a BFA in Directing from the American Film Institute, and is currently teaching directed at two institutions.
