FRANKENMUTH, MI Dorothy Zehnder, a Frankenmuth icon and centenarian, is the inspiration for a new bourbon from Maker's Mark for the Bavarian Inn Restaurant.

The new bourbon from "Matriarch Legacy 100" will be available at the beginning of March. The company is planning a sold-out dinner, according to a Bavarian Inn Restaurant news release. This is the restaurant's second partnership with Maker's Mark.

She co-founded the family-owned Bavarian Inn restaurant and is a Michigan Women's Hall of Fame inductee. The Reese native founded the Bavarian Inn with her late husband, William Zehnder. She has been instrumental to the Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn and the many operations under the name since the 80s, and she continues to work every day. Today, the Bavarian Inn is listed in the top 50 most family-run restaurants in the country.

Dozens of Bavarian Inn Restaurant staff members held the occasion late last year with a song and a "orange supreme" cake, one of her favorites. During her party, Dorothy Zehnder met with reporters and posed for photos.

When asked about her longevity's secrets, she replied, "You eat well, you sleep well, you live a decent life," and, naturally, you eat a lot of chicken.
