The US Has Expressed Its Readiness To Provide Medical Assistance To Iran
The United States authorities are ready to assist Iran in fighting the spread of a new type of coronavirus, including providing artificial lung ventilation (ventilators). This was announced by US President Donald Trump on Sunday at a briefing at the White House.
"If Iran needs help with this [in the fight against coronavirus], I would be ready to do something if they want it if they ask. <...> If they need help, if they need ventilators, we have thousands of ventilators on hand now, as well as devices that are in the process of production. <...> Without a doubt, we would be ready to help. What should they do? Be smarter and make a deal," the head of the Washington administration said.
On Saturday, Trump already declared his readiness to provide Iran with ventilators. In turn, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Sunday in his Twitter rejected the proposal of the head of the White House, noting that " Iran will not accept advice from any American politician." The Minister also called on Trump to " stop interfering in the affairs of other countries."
In recent weeks, there has been a downward trend in the number of new infections in Iran. According to official statistics, the number of infected people per day reached a peak (3,186 cases) on March 30, after which it began to decrease. The number of detected cases of coronavirus infection at the moment is about 82 thousand, and 5,118 deaths have been registered.
