QA testers at a Activision-owned studio have announced their partnership with the Game Workers Alliance, which is comprised of 80% of Raven's QA division.

The Raven QA team of the Association of Game Workers (GMO), comprised of Communication Workers of America, has formed it. It is believed that it would be the first group of employees within Activision Blizzard to unionize, and it would be the first organization in the AAA games industry.

Weve formed the Game Workers Alliance (CWA) because my colleagues and I want to have our voices heard, said Brent Reel, the Raven's QA leadership. Its extremely important that workers have a real seat at the table to positively shape the company going forward.

Employees at Raven are on the strike for weeks.

Activision laid off several QA testers last month, despite the company's promise of a more competitive pay structure. Despite some of the workers being moved out in protest and have remained on strike well into January.

"Our union will help inform what is best for Activision Blizzard as a company, as a platform for gamers and a workplace where all workers can thrive," says Raven's QA functional tester.

Microsoft announced that it would purchase Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion. Raven has been working on Call of Duty games in the last few years, with the biggest game being Call of Duty Warzone.

Activision spokesperson said GamesBeat is cautiously reviewing the CWA request for voluntary recognition. The CWA wants to organize around three dozen employees, but we understand the right of all employees to make their own decisions on whether or not to join the union.

According to the survey, 55% of respondents said game industry employees should unionize, but only 18% said unionizing would succeed.
