US Navy: Russian SU-35 Dangerously Close To An American Patrol Plane
The US military claims that a Russian SU-35 fighter jet came dangerously close to a US P-8A Poseidon Maritime Patrol Aircraft over the Mediterranean sea on Sunday. Information about the incident is provided in a statement issued by the press service of the 6th fleet of the US Navy.
"On April 19, a US Navy P-8A Poseidon Aircraft flying in international airspace over the Mediterranean sea was intercepted twice by a Russian su-35 within 100 minutes," the press release said. In the first case, the US military regarded the actions of the Russian aircraft as "safe and professional." In the second case, the maneuver was considered "unsafe and unprofessional" since the su-35, according to the US military, was flying at high speed and approached the American aircraft at a distance of about 25 feet (less than 8 meters).
On April 15, the Pentagon already reported that a Russian su-35 intercepted an American P-8A Poseidon over the Mediterranean sea. Then the US Navy also called the actions of the Russian aircraft "unsafe."
