On Sunday, the Las Vegas Raiders or Cincinnati Bengals will win a playoff match, but that will be a factor in the game.

For a generation, postseason success has been elusive for both teams. The frustration for one will end Saturday when they meet for an opening-round playoff game in Cincinnati.

After the 2016 season, the Raiders' most recent postseason win was 19 years ago, a conference championship before losing to Tampa Bay.

The Bengals are under intense pressure to halt their long-running playoff victory drought.

Cincinnati is in the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season, but it hasn't entered the opening round since the 1990 season.

On January 6, 1991, the Bengals beat the Houston Oilers in the wild-card game before losing to none other than the Raiders.

Cincinnati finished the year 15 more years before making it back in 2005. Seven postseason trips since then failed to produce a win, including five straight from 2011 to 2015.

The Bengals (10-7) won the AFC North with Chase, the fourth overall pick in the 2021 draft, and other young players, ahead of Burrow, the most prominent overall draft pick in 2020.

Joe Mixon, a second-rounder in 2020, had more than 1,500 receiving yards.

This season, the Raiders were able to overcome several serious off-the-field issues.

Coach Jon Gruden has quit following leaked racist, anti-gay, and misogynistic comments. Henry Ruggs III was recently fined for DUI resulting in a death. Damon Arnette was released after a social-media video appeared to show the first-round pick threatening someone's life while brandishing multiple firearms.

The Raiders lost their last four games in terms of four points or less in overtime against the Chargers.

The preview of the movie

THE REMATCH: Cincinnati beat the Raiders 32-13 in Week 11 and went to Las Vegas again. The Bengals were coming off two disappointing losses and a bye week, and the victory rewarded them.

Theyre super talented, well coached, Raiders quarterback Matt Carr said. I was feeling that we didnt put our best foot forward, but at the same time, I dont want to take away from them because they beat us. And they did a good job of stopping us and getting the ball from us and all those things.

RUN TO DAYLIGHT: Josh Jacobs has achieved two of his best games during his career. After rushing for much of the season against Denver, Jacobs had a career high.

RECORDS FALL: The 2021 Bengals surpassed a whole set of single-season team records, including Chase for passing yards (4,611), touchdowns (34), passer ratings (108.3), and games with 300-plus passing yards (six). Rookie Evan McPherson's 58-yard field goal at Denver was a new team record.

UNDER PRESSURE: The Raiders' all-season strength has been a defensive line that has exerted constant pressure on quarterback Maxx Crosby and Yannick Ngakoue. Crosby led the NFL in pressures with 101, according to Pro Football Focus, and Ngakoue had a team-high 10 sacks. Now they get a chance to tee off against a Bengals line that allowed the third-most sacks in the league with 51.
