A member of the Madison County Sheriff's Department dies from COVID-19
A criminal investigator in Madison County has died of COVID-19 complications.
According to the Sheriff's Office of Madison County, Deputy Steve Finley passed away on Friday at Huntsville Hospital.
Deputy Finley always had a positive attitude, and always went above and beyond to assist those who need assistance, the department said.
Finley spent 30 years at the Sheriff's office and began his career as a correctional officer in 1993. Eventually he became a criminal investigator, a post he held for 21 years.
Sheriff Kevin Turner says he was the epitome of the definition of a loving husband, caring father, loyal brother, thoughtful friend, and humble public servant.
We will forever remember our brother and always honor his memory, says the board member.
According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, 16,641 Alabamians have died of COVID-19 since 2020, and this year from the coronavirus, according to Dr. Donald Williamson, president of the Alabama Hospital Association.
The omicron variant increase has resulted in more than 2,000 hospitalizations in the country.
