Highlights of Saginaw-area boys basketball: Carrollton's DJ Voltz reaches a 1,000-point mark in a win

DJ Voltz, a senior at Carrollton, may add a new line to his already exciting athletic resume.

In a 62-45 Tri-Valley Conference West victory over Millington, the football, basketball, and track standout scored 18 points.

In his four years on the Carrollton varsity, Voltz has gained a 1,000 career point, but has boosted the percentage of points a game this season.

Voltz was one of five Michigan boys baskeball players nominated for the McDonald's All-American team earlier in the week.

Marco Hernandez jumped with 14 points and five assists, followed by Isiah Pierce scoring 10 points and rebounds. Jerdanio Bailey led Millington with 11 points and two assists.

Evan Engelhardt, a junior in the Saginaw Valley Lutheran program, has been named.

Bullock Creek 54, Valley Lutheran 55

Valley Lutheran led all scorers 27-18 at halftime, including Trey Flood and Alexander Gray. Kolten Riddle paced Bullock Creek with 15 points, followed by Landon Torkowski with 14 and Bo Schwartz with 10.

Alma 67, Bridgeport 70

Bridgeport won the TVC East after going into halftime at 34-34. DT Winters and Khalil Cliff followed with 13 points, with Winters adding four assists. Mason Stambaugh added 12 points, with Sam Rosales scoring 11, including a 3-pointer.

Heritage 70 and Holt 55 are both members of the Holt 55 Foundation.

Tyler Ode and Braylon Isom each scored 20 points to lead Heritage in the non-conference event, with Ode receiving seven assists. Tyree Alexander added ten points to the group in the second quarter to take a 46-27 halftime lead.

Hemlock 59, St. Louis 44

Hemlock led 28-27 at halftime, but pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Huskies 31-17, allowing Bryce Murphy to add 13 points and Max Dinninger to eight. Shelagowski and Dinninger also scored seven assists, while Kolin Lyon put them on nine.

Reese 71, Laker High 50

The Reese team won their 20th consecutive Greater Thumb West match with 16 points from Jacob Rau and 15 from Levi Foco. Demarquss Troublefield earned 12 points, including Jesse Stricker's 1,000th career goal.

Freeland, 62, and Frankenmuth, 40

Cullum LeBaron, a senior for Freeland, has struck seven 3-points in the first half, finishing with 23 points, putting them in front of Frankenmuth to the test. Josh Elliott has been followed by 15 points, 13 in the second half. Drew Titsworth has been the only person to lead Frankenmuth.

Swan Valley 64 and Birch Run 54 (OT) are both in excellent condition.

Swan Valley led by 12 points in the third quarter, but forced two overtimes before claiming the TVC East victory. Drew Kaeckmeister finished with 23 points, including 19 in the second half and 18 overtimes. Issac Beougher finished with 18 points.

Durand 51, Chesaning 47

Chesaning clinched 12 points with eight assists, while Mason Struck also scored 12 points with six assists. Evan List led the way with nine points.

Cass City 64, Vassar 61

At the end of the game, Vassar missed a three-pointer, settling for a Greater Thumb West defeat. Lemonte Davis led the Vulcans with 19 points, followed by Manuel Mendham with 15, Marquavis Crist with 13 and Landon Klinesmith with nine.

Standish-Sterling 65, Ithaca 55

Gibson Marr scored 12 points to lead Ithaca in the TVC West defeat. Shawn Parker followed with 11 points for the Yellowjackets, who trailed 28-17 at halftime

Midland High 55 and Bay City Central 49 are located at Midland High.

Midland took a 21-11 lead after one quarter and remained on for the victory on Thursday, with Central cutting the lead to three points in the fourth quarter.

Flint 54 and Midland Dow 51 are the most well-known players in the country.

To claim the win, Flint scored the final five points, including three free throws in the final minute. Ryan Murphy topped the table with 15 points to lead all scorers. Jacob Ahn followed with 13 points and Nolan Fisher 11 for the Chargers.

Clare 42, Sanford Meridian 32

Meridian struggled offensively against Clare's trapping defense, scoring a season-low 32 points Thursday. Nick Metzger led the Mustangs with nine points, while Sawyer Moloy and Dane Plichta added eight points each. Cam Haiser also added 10 rebounds.

Carson City-Crystal 55, Coleman 44

Carson City-Crystal pulled away from Coleman for Thursday's MSAC victory. Trenton Risdon led the Comets with 12 points, followed by Ty Klopf with nine points and five steals.
