Boys basketball highlights in Saginaw-area: Carrollton's DJ Voltz scores a 1,000-point lead in the final

The role of Carrollton senior DJ Voltz is a testament to the league's athletic record.

In a 62-45 Tri-Valley Conference West victory against Millington, the football, basketball, and track standout scored 18 points.

In his four years on the Carrollton varsity, Voltz has a 1,000 career rebounds, but has jumped to 19 points a game this season.

Voltz was the one of five Michigan boys baskeball players nominated for the McDonalds All-American team earlier in the week.

Marco Hernandez finished with 14 points and five assists, followed by Isiah Pierce scoring 10 points with 10 assists. Drew Kihn led Millington with 11 points, followed by Jerdanio Bailey with 10.

Evan Engelhardt, a junior at Saginaw Valley Lutheran College, is a junior.

Bullock Creek 54, Valley Lutheran 55

Valley Lutheran won by two points against Bullock Creek, who was beaten by Landon Torkowski and Bo Schwartz.

Alma 67, Bridgeport 70, and Bridgeport 70

Bridgeport beat the TVC East 6-2 thanks to a 34-34 victory over DT Winters and Khalil Cliff. Mason Stambaugh added 12 points, including a 3-pointer.

Heritage 70 and Holt 55 are all part of the Heritage 70 list.

Heritage, which took a 46-27 halftime lead, took a 20-point lead from Tyler Ode and Braylon Isom.

Hemlock 59, St. Louis 44

Hemlock led 28-27 at halftime, but he won it in the second half, outscoring the Sharks 31-17, defeating the Huskies to 5-1. Carter Gensch and Jacob Shelagowski added 15 points each, with Bryce Murphy adding 13 and Max Dinninger eight. Shelagowski and Dinninger also added seven assists each, with Murphy dishing out five assists with three steals. Kolin Lyon led St. Louis with nine.

Reese 71, Laker High 50

The result was the first of Reese's 20th consecutive Greater Thumb West game, winning 16 points from Jacob Rau and 15 from Levi Foco. Laker High fell to a poor start to the season, but Damarquss Troublefield added 12 points, including his 1,000th career point for Reese, with Jesse Stricker scoring 10.

Frankenmuth 40, Freeland 62, and Frankenmuth 40

Cullum LeBaron, a senior for Freeland, was given 23 points to lead the teams ahead of Frankenmuth in a TVC East game. Josh Elliott led Frankenmuth with 15 points, including 13 in the second half. Drew Titsworth is the other player to lead the team with nine points.

Durand 51, Chesaning 47, and Durand 51 are all the same.

Chesaning fell to 12 points with eight assists, but Mason Struck added 12 assists with six assists. Evan List then added nine assists.

Cass City 64, Vassar 61

At the end of the game, Vassar failed to score a three-point winner, settling for a Greater Thumb West loss. Lemonte Davis led the Vulcans with 19 points, followed by Manuel Mendham with 15, Marquavis Crist with 13 and Landon Klinesmith with nine.

Standish-Sterling 65, Ithaca 55

Ithaca defeats TVC West with Gibson Marr scoring 12 points, beating Shawn Parker 11 times. The Yellowjackets trail 28-17 at halftime.

Midland High 55, Bay City Central 49

Midland took a 21-11 lead after one quarter, whereas Central held on for the win on Thursday.

Flint 54 and Midland Dow 51

Flint scored the final five points, including three free throws in the final minute, to maintain their lead in the first quarter. Ryan Murphy came off the bench with 15 points, finishing with 13 points and Nolan Fisher 11 respectively.

Clare 42, Sanford Meridian 32

Meridian fought offensively against Clare's trapping defense, scoring a season-low 32 points Thursday. Nick Metzger led the Mustangs with nine points, while Sawyer Moloy and Dane Plichta added eight points each.

Carson City-Crystal 55, Coleman 44

Carson City-Crystal took a 22-12 third-quarter advantage to seal a win over Coleman for Thursday's MSAC. Trenton Risdon led the Comets with 12 points, followed by Ty Klopf with nine points and five steals
