The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program provides tax returns prepared for eligible residents

JACKSON COUNTY, MI The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is offering tax returns to eligible people in Jackson, Lenawee and Hillsdale counties.

For households with an income of $57,000 or less, the Community Action Agency's tax assistance program offers free tax return preparations for those who are interested in the tax.

It goes beyond words to be able to provide this service and assist those who cant afford it, said Tami Farnum, director of the VITA program. This is a foundation where we can educate residents to build their assets and gain financial independence that they need to become self-sufficient and it really brings us all joy to be able to help.

After passing the IRS certification, trained and certified volunteers will prepare tax returns for those who are eligible in Jackson and neighboring counties. Every return will be reviewed before being completed.

Automated appointment scheduling will begin on Wednesday, January 19, with the option to speak with a live representative. Call 517-247-2099 to schedule an appointment, or visit.

CAA will be allowing additional appointments every couple of weeks throughout the tax season due to volunteer availability, according to Farnum.

Tax preparation sites for in-person will be available at the Arbor Church in Spring Arbor, 120 E. Main Street, and at the Department on Aging in Jackson County, 1715 Lansing Avenue.

Residents will be given access to drop-off locations in the Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic.

People with an income of $73,000 or less have the option to submit their tax returns for free at.

A volunteer tax preparer will be available Monday through Thursday afternoons at the Carnegie Branch of Jackson District Library in downtown Jackson. No appointment is necessary.
