Starting January 19th, households in the United States may order four free COVID-19 tests, according to the White House
WASHINGTON, Jan. 14, (Reuters) - Households in the United States may order four free at-home COVID-19 tests from COVIDTests.gov starting on January 19 with shipping scheduled for seven to 12 days after ordering, according to the White House on Friday.
The result of the free tests is to alleviate the shortage of COVID-19 testing in the United States, despite increasing demand during the rapidly expanding Omicron spectrum.
According to the White House, the US government has already contracted for more than 420 million tests.
President Joe Biden has pledged to buy 1 billion free testing for Americans, and more may be ordered in the future. "We're not saying we're stopping there," one senior administration official told reporters on a conference call.
