Diego Chara has signed a contract with Portland Timbers to pursue the deal

The shortest-tenured player is still stuck around.

Diego Chara, a midfielder and captain of the Timbers, has signed a contract extension until the 2024 season, according to the team.

Chara is on the club's all-time list of MLS regular-season games (310), first (306), and second (306).

According to Gavin Wilkinson, the Timbers are incredibly fortunate to have Diego in this club and appreciate his excellent contributions to the organization on and off the field.

Since his first season with the Timbers in April 2011, Chara leads MLS players in games started, tackles won (780) and fouls conceded (745).

Diego Chara's ability to play in this team is unmeasurable. He's our captain and leader, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have him with us for the next three years, according to coach Giovanni Savarese.

Chara became the eighth player in MLS history to make his 300th regular-season appearance with one team. He is the only player to have started all three of the Timbers' MLS Cup final appearances (2015, 2018, 2021).
