A large blaze has been reported at a Muskegon rental storage facility
MUSKEGON, MI -- Investigators are looking into whether a candle has begun a large fire at a Muskegon self-storage facility early Friday, January 14.
The fire was reported about 6:15 a.m. in the area of East Laketon Avenue and Austin Street.
Investigators at the Muskegon Department of Public Safety said the fire caused significant damage to the self-storage facility.
When a candle ignited combustible materials, a 911 caller told authorities she was in her rental apartment.
According to officials, the 37-year-old woman was able to evacuate the storage facility only with a minor injury.
Firefighters in Muskegon received help from departments in Muskegon Heights, Muskegon Township, North Muskegon, and Norton Shores.
Firefighters were on the scene for several hours.
