The original franchise creator said on Deadline's he had gotten back to his goodbyes when Wes (Craven) died.

When Spyglass Media snapped up the Dimension Films IP, the conversations began to bubble up of a revival. Williamson had a conversation with Spyglass Boss Gary Barber, however, the project was set into motion when screenwriter James Vanderbilt gave him a call.

As the slasher series progresses, it is interesting to note that Williamson originally pitched a Scream 5 and 6, but that those elements didnt really get inserted into the new edition.

Williamson enjoys the opportunity to interact with actors and create ideas, but he enjoys watching them achieve their dreams.

In relation to a Dawson's Creek reboot, especially in the age of HBO Max's streamer, Williamson says he hears one everyother year.

"I would love to shepherd it," says Williamson with a new generation of scribes.

Scream has reached a new high as it prepares for the weekend with $3.5 million in previews of Thursday night, the third best Thursday for a horror film in the pandemic after Halloween Kills and A Quiet Place Part II. Both grossed $4.8 million.
