Morocco has won the Comoros to reach the last 16 of the World Cup

Morocco won 2-0 to stay top of Group C and ensure progress to the last 16 of the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

After 16 minutes, Selim Amallah scored and Zakaria Aboukhlal scored at the final whistle to secure victory for Youssef En-Nesyri.

Morocco's chances would have been significantly more one-sided if they took all their chances as they overwhelmed the tournament's debutants at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.

Morocco now has six points, while Comoros have not opened their account. Gabon, who has three points, and Ghana, on none, will play their second group match at the stadium later on Friday.

Amallah opened the scoring with a second after picking up a rebound following some flurry of attacking to give Morocco a deserved lead.

In the 37th minute, Romain Saiss led the club's captain against the crossbar, scoring two more goals for Ayoub El Kaabi.

Morocco surged in the second half as well as as imposed a goal to defeat the team, but found Salim Ben Boina to be difficult to score, while also lacking some glaring chances.

El Kaabi was again fined with wasted opportunities as the Comoros defenders slapped desperately to keep their star-studded opponents at bay.

En-Nesyri, whose participation at the tournament had been in disobeying due to injury with his Spanish club Sevilla, came on in the second half for his first run out, but his spot kick was saved.

Aboukhlal, a former Dutch youth international, scored a goal in the last minute, but it was later denied.
