A 56-year-old man was murdered in an early-morning Birmingham shooting

One man was killed during an early-morning shooting in southwest Birmingham.

The shooting took place on Friday at 3:26 p.m. in the 800 block of Seventh Street S.W. The victim was taken to Princeton Baptist Medical Center where he was found dead at 4:09 a.m.

Richard Spence, a victim of Birmingham police, was identified as the 56-year-old.

Spence, according to Sgt. Rod Mauldin, was involved in a preliminary investigation, making several acquaintances present.

A person of interest is being questioned by investigators. No formal charges have been filed in this case.

The man in question is Birmingham's ninth homicide so far this year, including the nine in Birmingham.
