Germie Bernard, a four-star WR signee, is a "difference maker," according to Mel Tucker

LANSING The early signing period ended almost a month ago and the next one does not begin until February.

In between these windows, Michigan State made a significant addition to its recruiting class.

Germie Bernard, a four-star wide receiver from Liberty High School in Nevada, has initially signed with Washington and has already begun taking classes.

Coach Mel Tucker has said that he is a great player and that he can be a difference maker. He's got a really good combination of speed and size and he's strong with the ball. He's a guy that I feel like is going to fit well with our mix of guys and he's going to be able to help us big time, Tucker said.

Bernard, a 6-foot-2 and a 195 pounds, is the only wide receiver in Michigan State's recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Bernard is also the fourth wide receiver in the class, along with four-star Antonio Gates Jr. and three-stars Jaron Glover and Tyrell Henry.

Bernard took the move from Nevada to East Lansing, but he signed on December 15 for Washington, despite being fired in November and replaced by Kalen DeBoer.

Bernard and Houser were teammates at Liberty before the quarterback was transferred and spent the last two seasons at St. John Bosco High School in California.

Tucker said: Obviously recruiting is fluid, it's always changing. We were able to get him here, and I'm really happy hes here.

In December, Michigan State completed four transfers in linebackers Jacoby Windmon (UNLV) and Aaron Brule (Mississippi State), running back Jalen Berger (Wisconsin) and defensive end Khris Bogle (Florida).

The roster management has just gone to a whole new level right now, Tucker said. Were dont necessarily intentionally hold back spots just for the portal, but ultimately it sometimes works out that way.

The next signing period for Michigan State will start February 2, according to TreVonte' Citizen, a four-star running back from Lake Charles College Prep in Louisiana.

Tucker said the best players that we can get that are available. Were going to have to compete and fight for them. A lot of these are going to go all the way down to the wire, all the way down to the end.
