Several armoured personnel carriers and dozens of troops on foot arrived at Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest town, on Thursday morning, where hundreds of people protested against the government for the third day, according to Reuters affiliates.
According to witnesses from Reuters, gunshots were heard as troops approached the crowd.
