Americans' confidence in consumer habits remained strong in December ...

WASHINGTON, Dec 22 - American consumer confidence rose further in December, making it clear the economy would continue to expand in 2022 despite the resurgence of COVID-19 infections and the reduction of the stimulus budget.

The Conference Board said on Wednesday that the consumer confidence index increased to a reading of 115.8 this month from a revised 111.9 in November to a reading of 110.8.

The nation is undergoing a massive explosion in COVID-19 infections, driven by the Delta and very contagious Omicron variants - a factor that could block economic activity in the first quarter.
