VENICE, Dec. 22 - Lazio achieved the best calendar year in their Serie A history by beating Venezia 3-1 on Wednesday to remain in the hunt for European qualification.
That is the 24th league victory in 2021 for the Roman side, and the new club record for the calendar year puts them in eighth place ahead of the winter break with 31 points thrown behind Juventus.
Pedro Rodriguez put Maurizio Sarri's side ahead, taking a weaving run and finishing, while Francesco Forte left the country to equal the 16th place of Venezia at halftime.
Francesco Acerbi restored Lazio's lead in the second half; and the replacement Luis Alberto threw a third at the death, shortly before he sent off Tanner Tessman.
Bologna gained its 3-0 victory over Sassuolo in the 10th spot.
Riccardo Orsolini and Aaron Hickey emitted early goal finishes before Federico Santander added a late third for the visitors.
