A Democratic lawyer who defended the 2020 election results in court was appointed to the state board to get the next election certify.

The Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appointed Mary Ellen Gurewitz to the Board of State Canvassers, a group of professionals and certifying the Michigan elections by approving electronic voting systems and by doing recounts. Gurewitz served as vice-chairman of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers, and represented the Michigan Democratic Party, in a federal lawsuit which had failed to overturn the presidential election results.
