Oruc Reis: Turkey Has Issued A Notification To Ships About The Start Of Exploration In The Mediterranean Sea
Turkey has issued a notification to the captains of Mediterranean vessels, transmitted via the NAVTEX international automated notification system. According to NTV on Monday, this is since the Turkish research vessel Oruc Reis left Antalya to start geological exploration in the Mediterranean sea.
According to the TV channel, the notification will be valid until August 23. Meanwhile, on August 7, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the drilling vessel "Barbaros Hayrettin" also resumed geological exploration drilling in the Mediterranean sea.
On July 21 of this year, the Turkish hydrographic service in the port city of Antalya issued an international NAVTEX alert on seismic surveys from that day until August 2, South of the Greek Islands of Rhodes and Kastelorizo and Southeast of Crete. In Ankara, it was announced that the Turkish research vessel Oruc Reis will be located in the area. After that, as reported by Greek media, about 25 Turkish warships were deployed in the area near Kastelorizo and along the Turkish coast. Later, some of these ships returned to their base. Greece then called the Turkish notification of seismic exploration on the Greek sea shelf illegal and put its armed forces on alert.
