BAY CITY, MI - A local organization will provide food boxes this year to help families and individuals in need get a boost during the holiday season.

Commodity boxes will be delivered throughout the month of December through the Mid Michigan Community Action Agency for both low-income seniors and those in need of emergency food. The senior food boxes are distributed as part of the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, which is a monthly distribution for low-income seniors 60 and over.

The Emergency Food Assistance Program is a quarterly distribution for individuals and families of all ages in need of urgent food. Quarterly distributions typically take place in March, June, September, and December, respectively.

According to the Mid Michigan CAA, the senior boxes of the CSFP include canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats, cereals, grains, ultra-high temperature milk and cheese.

Jennifer Raymond, senior food boxes manager at Mid Michigan CAA, stated, "Senior food boxes contain USDA products aimed at filling nutrient gaps in seniors' diets."

The quarterly food box consists of products that differ from quarter to quarter, intended to distribute excessive agricultural goods to individuals who can utilize it while minimizing food waste, Raymond added.

Senior food boxes and emergency boxes will be distributed in the Mid Michigan CAA at the following sites:
