The President Of Brazil Proposed Opening The Country's Borders
Jair Bolsonaro admitted that the decision to close the borders with Paraguay and Uruguay was meaningless because it is impossible.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has proposed opening the country's borders with neighboring States, despite the coronavirus pandemic. The politician announced this initiative on Friday during the inauguration ceremony of the new Minister of health.
"I believe that it is necessary to open the borders, we will discuss this with the Ministers, of course. Why is the border with Paraguay closed? There is a land border that cannot be controlled. The same is true with Uruguay, " the head of state said. In his opinion, making the decision itself in the absence of the possibility to ensure its implementation did not make sense.
In mid-March, due to the spread of the coronavirus epidemic on the South American continent, Brazil announced the closure of land-based cross-border communication with neighboring States. An exception was made only for people living in border zones, as well as for the movement of goods between countries. At the end of the month, a complete ban on the entry of foreigners was introduced. The first such restrictions expire on April 19, while others remain in effect until the end of the month.
