Germany Intends To Bet On Negotiations With The US On The Nord Stream 2 Issue
The German government hopes that the US will not impose sanctions on the participants of the Nord Stream 2 project, despite all the threats, and is betting on negotiations on this issue, according to the statement by German Economy and Energy Minister Peter Altmaier in an interview published on Tuesday with the DPA news agency.
"We still hope that it will not come to these sanctions. We are ready to negotiate at any time to prevent an escalation [in the situation around Nord Stream 2]," the Minister said.
Altmaier recalled that there are no reasons for Washington to take restrictive measures against the project participants: gas transit through Ukraine is secured, and terminals are being built in Northern Germany to receive LNG from the United States to diversify fuel supplies.
"For the rest, I hope and expect that all parties will adhere to the norms of international law," the head of the German energy Ministry said.
