- World Health Organization warned countries against pushing restrictive travel restrictions linked to the new B1.1.529 variant of COVID-19 on Friday, a statement on whether countries should take a risk-based and scientific approach.
"At this point, implementing travel measures is being cautioned against", said a U.N. briefing in Geneva. "The WHO recommended countries continue to apply a risk-based and scientific approach to travel measures."
The WHO is the first of five countries to inform governments on what to take, he said.
It will take a few weeks to understand the variant's impact, so scientists are studying how it's transmitsible and how it is going to affect therapeutics and vaccines, said the team.
