ARROUNDR The German powertrain specialist RENK Group is founding its headquarters in the United States and remarried a project for the company L3Harris Technologies, and a solution for the emergence of potential prime contractors with the help of advanced laborers like Bradley Infantry.
During the annual meeting of the American Army's Annual Conference, in Washington in July, RENK Group acquired L3Harris' CPS business in a $400 million cash deal. The German company is now in the United States. Now called RENK America, it has opened a Muskegon, Michigan facility where it plans to build advanced mobility systems.
It has three employees across Europe, including in China and Brazil, and in Europe, with its industrial civil business a presence in China and Brazil, said Susanne Wiegand, director of RENK Group in a recent interview.
Roughly 50% of RENK Groups business is a combat vehicle both tracked and wheeled , she said, adding power packs, stand-alone engine, transmissions and suspensions, her adding. The entire chassis more or less is under RENK control, she said.
She said we have a global business in which we reach global target-and-a-quarter: 75% of our revenue is defense, 25% is civilian business, said: We acted in the civil business.
As part of a joint venture, the company established an area of manufacturing complexes, which is able to sell goods in a pond-like market. While it possesses a lot of space, the land uses a multi-acre path to test vehicles.
The manufacturing facility for RENK America is located in Muskegon, Mich.
The CPS business date back a lot to RENK Group. It has since become a very popular business since the early ownership of Teledyne and General Dynamics was inherited.
The business was focused on making and designing engines and transmissions for almost all tracked vehicles in the US and on the big side, meaning over 50 tons. Currently, RENK America CEO Ted Trzesniowski told Defense News in the same interview.
These vehicles include Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles, Multiple Launch Rocket Systems, Paladin Integrated Management System or the M109A7 howitzer, and some recovery vehicles.
Weve heard the voice of the customer before saying that they can't really buy, and purchase from a European provider, something of that complexity, so they can acquire them into US vehicles, Trzesniowski said. That's really the most tense position in the arena in the combat vehicles,
The company is talking to all of the potential prime contractors involved in the design phase of the program, when the technology begins in order to create a prototype prototype of the program, to replace its Bradley with an optionally manned combat vehicle, and then replace its U-nav technology.
By the way, the Army tries to pursue a competition for OMFV, which aims to expand the number of challenges to the development of a project that combines the design phase and the design phase and gaining strength across the board, as opposed to simply avoiding high equating demands and recircling demand from the start and avoiding strong rules and loose elements.
With the Armys previous attempts, physical bids were delivered, which forced the enemy to abandon its rivalry, followed by the use of the militarys new approach.
The service mapped out five phases of effort. The process begins with initial design phases and then proceeds to a detailed design phase, followed by prototyping, testing and production.
The military abandoned a large portion of the restrictions that usually prevent foreign competition.
Many foreign companies are starting to grow, partnering with American companies, and competing with a country business.
IBF partnered with the Israeli defense firm ARM. There were three-tiered groups with the Telade-based company Hanwha.
The other two parties who designed the OMFV are General Dynamics Land Systems and nontraditional company Point Blank.
RENK Group already supplies General Dynamics power solutions and components for its Ajax vehicle program. We deliver the program at the moment more than 700 pieces, Wiegand said.
And Rheinmetall is a long-term customer. RENK supplies components for the Puma combat vehicle and the first Lynx for Hungary.
The company is also a BAE Systems customer and RENK supplies the transmission for the K2 main battle tank manufactured by Hanwha and ordered by the Korean army.
One of those companies that RENK does not work with is Point Blank, she noted.
While a lot of teams have out of those five awarded digital design concept contracts announced a number of teaming arrangements, there are still others that are purposefully keeping their choices open.
In ReNK America, no arrangements are at the moment exclusive, particularly in the area of propulsion systems. But Trzesniowski believes that whoever comes with the best solution and the highest maturity and the higher integration of new technologies to affordable price will be part of the OMFV solution.
The company that is based in the United States currently has a subsidiary, is that RENK could offer for example that the expensive advanced transmission could be delivered to the US market at affordable costs - because it's going to be manufactured stateside, says Trzesniowski.
Among other things, it is hoped that the company will take this newfound affordability and offer it to companies with flexible solutions, such as hybrid options, according to Trzesniowski. Everything is on the table.
ReNK America is also gearing up to test an integrated power system in 2022 including engine, transmission, power generation with the Combat Capabilities Development Command Ground Vehicle Systems Center in Michigan that includes an entire combat system prototype.
I'm doing that partly to give OMFV to customers, but also we've got interested parties that want to see this fully integrated solution ready and not just on PowerPoint, Trzesniowski said.
The company hopes to open the door to other international companies trying to go for business in the United States.
There are no companies or designers from the United States who want to actually build products in the United States but do not have their own footprint in order to get the business out of the European market, Trzesniowski said.
We have the capacity, we have skilled people who can take anything component of propulsion under our roof.
