Roydell Williams has a knee injury that requires surgery. He is going to be out, coach Nick Saban said Monday.

Since the day before Thursdays game against New Mexico State, Wide receiver JoJo Earle does not need surgery for an injured wrist, and will be out in a week or two, Saban said.

In her injury, Williams injury leaves Alabama with two healthy scholarship running backs in Brian Robinson and Trey Sanders. The Tide moved Christian Leary, while the defenseman turned out to be running back and returning from tight receiver. Freshman Camar Wheaton remains out with a meniscus injury.

Those guys have worked a couple of other guys in there for over a month now, Saban said Monday of Leary and Kennedy. Those guys are functional at the position, hoping to come up with a new opportunity, if we need them.

"But when we don't really think that we can change right now, we must have a plan even if we have issues more at this point."

Williams ran 48 times for 285 yards and one touchdown this season, Sanders has 39 carries and two touchdowns, including 12 runs for 66 yards and a score Saturday.

He gave out a very good opportunity in the game and was quite enthusiastic in this regard, Saban said. I think he has a great opportunity and understands the offense well and in the game, so it is time for him to take advantage of the opportunity, but it is because we don't trust him to do that so well for us, Saban said. I think he has a great opportunity, but I think he can play well.

Earle, freshman, has been the primary punt returner and has 12 catches for 148 yards.
