Red Wings might look at Joe Veleno well with Mitchell Stephens out ...

Joe Velenos third stint with the Detroit Red Wings could mean a lot more time and maybe a chance to form himself in the NHL.

The Red Wings recalled Veleno from Grand Rapids Griffins and placed Mitchell Stephens on injured reserve Monday, for the Columbus Blue Jackets' game against Nationwide Arena (7 p.m.)

Today is the beginning of a four-game trip for the Red Wings (8-6-2) are 4-1-0 in their past five.

While the team had two games in Canada and three more during the last four days, Veleno scored an assist as part of the previous four-game trip (Oct. 30-Nov. 6), when the team lost for the game with Tyler Bertuzzi for both games and Dylan Larkin for three games because of personal reasons.

We need him to be a good player for us, all 200 feet. I think Joe had moments of playing real good hockey, coach Jeff Blashill said. I think Joe was a good transporter from one point to the next, so that he is important. By he can beat you more than anything but he has a shotgun, and it's important because he is technically a good player for all the time long.

Alternatively, Blashill could pick Veleno into Stephens' second-line center spot, but might prefer to play him at third-line wing, centered by Michael Rasmussen, to exploit his offensive potential.

He can also play the game against the cliff, but while his crest is really young, he's cleverly armed with his intelligence, he says. They can compete against the odds. That time, to come to the bench and show us that you can help us win hockey games, Blashill said.

Stephens suffered lower-body injury in the second half of the overtime victory over Montreal.

She is coming to a specialist tomorrow. I don't know exactly what I would have planned for now.

Currently, he has experienced a full-time success, so his energy and speed are pretty consistent. In the past, he has developed a good and effective attitude for the first time in the future: If he does, he can bring speed and energy, a lot, he can, by virtue of his strengths, he can, too, take control of his side. He has, too, a way of putting the punch on the right. I think he is capable of being so far better

The Red Wings have to pay for the minute Stephens fought on the penalty kill by two times a game.

He is definitely somebody who can fill some of those minutes. Probably Adam Erne is another man who can fill some of those minutes.

One of the guys who have been well-able to succeed, Joe has one of them. "Stephens did a good job for us on the kill. He and Ms. Gagner have been a good together, and thus it was unfortunate, but this is the NHL. We can't be very strong, he says.

Troy Stecher skates: Defenseman Troy Stecher (upper-body injury) skated Monday in Columbus, but isn't going to return anytime soon.

Seeing him suffer from a brain injury and seeing whether he can get an eye on that injury, Blashill said. I want to see if he doesn't have any other option (including surgery) but he isn't the only one who has no desire for a chance to take a large step, hes re-reading the evidence he has of that. So that we will see.
