The conservative majority on Newberg's school board tripled last week on its controversial policy to ban such a symbolical as Pride and Black Lives Matter from classrooms and campuses.

The board votes 4 and 3 to oust the popular superintendent who helped steer the exurban district's financial stability in recent years.

This is the latest surprise in the school board, but Newberg isn't alone. It's part of a broader movement.

The latest episode of the Newberg Digital series, Beat Check with the Oregonian, we heard from Ryan Clarke and Eder Campuzano. Ryan joined the Oregonian last week, and covered countless stories about the controversial policy that he was going to make up the Public Schools of Portland and the Oregonian University.

We talked about last weeks remarkable meeting, what students of color and LGBTQ+ students are saying, where is the story going from here and how Newberg fits into the larger American narrative today.

It's a full episode.
