A man was wounded in a home invasion Monday morning in Amesbury. Two men were searching for an attacker, officials said.

Amesbury police confirmed the violence in a statement posted on Facebook.

The target residence is located on Mill Street, police said. The home invasion took place between 8 and 9 p.m.

"A white man was shot in the knee and transported to Portsmouth with life threatening injuries," the statement said. "We have reason to believe that the victims and assailants know each other," added the statement.

According to the statement, the two suspects were described as white men with shaved heads and white men. The two suspects were identified with white males with shaved heads.

Police said one had a black hooded sweatshirt printed on the front in white print on the front, the police said.

A witness reported the suspects driving off in a gray Nissan Altima for a 2019 Nissan Altima with a Massachusetts plate bearing the registration 8TM 845.

Obviously, the police has cleared the area but are looking for canines in the area, the statement said. No threat to public safety is present.
