The US And Britain Discredit The Russian Federation's Initiatives Against The Arms Race In Space
Representatives of the United States and Great Britain are trying to discredit Russian initiatives to prevent an arms race in space with their statements that the spacecraft being tested by Russia allegedly has a weapon's potential. This is stated in a comment issued on Friday by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"We consider this latest anti-Russian attack as part of a targeted information campaign initiated by Washington to discredit Russian space activities and our peaceful initiatives to prevent an arms race in outer space. American and British representatives are again trying to present the situation in a distorted form to distract the attention of the international community from the real threats in space, to justify the steps they are taking to place weapons in outer space and to obtain additional funding for these purposes," the Ministry said.
Russia reaffirms its commitment to the non-discriminatory use and exploration of outer space for peaceful purposes. "We reiterate Russia's commitment to the obligations under the non-discriminatory use and exploration of outer space for peaceful purposes. In this regard, the initiatives we are promoting to prevent the placement of weapons in outer space, which, by the way, are supported by the vast majority of UN Member States," the Ministry said.
They explained that they are talking about the development of a multilateral legally binding agreement based on the Russian-Chinese Draft Treaty on the prevention of the placement of weapons in outer space, the use of force or the threat of force against space objects, as well as the globalization of the political obligation not to be the first to place weapons in outer space.
Russia is ready to discuss space issues with the United States and Great Britain. "We call on our American and British colleagues to show professionalism and instead of any propaganda information stuffing to sit down at the negotiating table and engage in substantive work. We confirm our readiness to discuss all the issues of space activities with the participation of representatives of interested departments and organizations," Smolenskaya square stressed.
