The Indian And US Navies Conducted Joint Exercises In The Bay Of Bengal
A group of Indian Navy ships conducted joint maneuvers with the US Navy's carrier strike group led by the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Nimitz on Monday, according to the PTI News Agency.
According to the Agency, the exercise to test the joint passage of ships took place in the waters of the Bay of Bengal in the area of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands belonging to India. In the maneuvers called PASSEX, four ships of the Indian Navy took part.
The Indian-American exercises took place against the backdrop of strained relations between New Delhi and Beijing due to recent clashes between border guards near the Indian-Chinese border, the Agency recalls.
Sources told the PTI News Agency that the Indian Navy intends to step up operational cooperation with various friendly naval forces operating in the region, including the US Navy.
