Wind speeds in your town: How high were the gusts?

The long-duration noreaster that blanketed Massachusetts and Rhode Island brought strong winds with it but none that rivalered what happened at 4:31 a.m. Wednesday in Edgartown, Massachusetts.

The National Weather Service reported a 94-mile an hour wind gust at the time.

Other Cape Cod and South Shore communities came close, however. The weather service reported 88 miles an hour winds in Vineyard Haven, 87 miles per hour in Scituate, 85 miles every hour at Duxbury, and 84 miles each hour for Dennis, as well as 80 miles of continuous wind in Truro.

The storms wind component was so strong, the weather service advised people to stay off the roads in Southeastern Massachusetts while wind gusts were approaching hurricane strength levels.

The weather service posted a list of wind speeds recorded overnight in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including 40 miles an hour in Canton and Narragansett. The slowest speed was 40mph in several North Shore communities.
