Five People Were Killed On The Grounds Of A Church In The Suburbs Of Johannesburg
Five people were killed on Saturday in a suburb of Johannesburg on the territory of the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos, belonging To the international Pentecostal Church of Holiness of Africa, according to the portal of the Gauteng province police of the Republic of South Africa.
"We are talking about a situation with the taking of hostages, which was accompanied by shooting," the statement says. "30 people were arrested and 25 firearms were seized." The police noted that "the situation has not yet been fully resolved and negotiations are underway with those who are holding the hostages."
The Church of the Holy Mother of God in the town of Zuurbekom became the object of a dispute between two communities, which have been fighting for control of the complex since the fall of 2018 after the death of the head of this African Church. There were already violent clashes between the two groups.
The International Pentecostal Holiness Church of Africa was established in South Africa in 1962 by Frederick Modise. The number of its parishioners reaches 3 million.
