China Has Suspended Imports Of Meat Products From 23 Companies From Europe, The United States, And Other Regions
Chinese authorities have temporarily suspended imports of meat products from 23 foreign enterprises after detecting cases of coronavirus infection. As the Main Customs Administration of China reported on Friday, the measures also affected companies from Brazil, Britain, Germany, and the United States.
"In connection with recent local outbreaks of coronavirus in some foreign meat processing plants and enterprises producing water products, it was decided to suspend the import of [products of some enterprises]," the document says. "Currently, the import of products from 23 foreign meat processing enterprises from Germany, the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and other countries has been suspended," the statement said.
As specified, 10 of the 23 enterprises suspended exports to China at the request of the Chinese side. Some companies, the document indicates, have independently decided to suspend the supply of products to China.
Earlier, the General customs administration of China announced the suspension of imports of meat products from the American Corporation Tyson to China after detecting cases of coronavirus infection among its employees. Besides, the import of products from a meat processing plant belonging to the German concern Toennies was suspended, amid the detection of about 600 infected people there.
