Kanye West Said That He Intends To Run For The US Presidential Election As An Independent Candidate

American rap artist Kanye West is going to participate in the US presidential election in 2020 as an independent candidate. He said this in an interview published on Wednesday with Forbes magazine.

"I would have run as a Republican if there had not been [the incumbent President representing the Republican party, Donald] Trump's. If Trump is in the race, then I will participate as an independent candidate," West said. He noted that he no longer supports the current head of the White House, even though he was his supporter in recent years.

At the same time, the musician criticized the democratic nominee former Vice President Joseph Biden, Recalling the words "if you don't vote for me, you're not black," addressed to the African-American community. According to West, such statements are a manifestation of racism.

The rapper said that as a candidate for the post of Vice President, he chose his friend-a priest from the state of Wyoming, Michel Tidball. The campaign slogan will be "Yes," West said. At the same time, he stressed that the statement of his intention to run for President of the United States is not intended to attract additional attention to his person in the run-up to the upcoming release of his new album God's Country in the summer.

Speaking about the foreign policy course, West noted that he "has not yet formulated it," but intends to "protect America." He also said that he "loves China" and the coronavirus pandemic is "not the fault of the Chinese people."

West's intention to run for President of the United States became known on July 4. He was immediately supported by the head of American companies Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk. Many experts, however, doubt the rapper's political success, as he entered the presidential race late: in several States, the deadline for an independent candidate to collect the necessary number of voter signatures to participate in the election has expired. The 59th US presidential election is scheduled for November 3.
