Averie Pumford, a freshman at Freeland, claimed fifth place in the Division 3 girls golf state meet Saturday, finishing with .272 total over two days.

Pumford led the Freeland golf team to a 12th-place finish at the Division 3 meet at Forest Akers West at Michigan State University. She shot a 79 on Friday, followed by an 83. Lauren Timpf of Macomb Lutheran North led the field with a two-day total of 139 to win medalist honors.

Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood came in first place with a 694 score. Freeland finished with a 790.

Ava Mata, a junior, followed Pumford with 205, with junior Zoey Markey shooting 210. Sophie Argyle, a senior, finished with 214 points.

Shepehrd finished 15th in Division 4 at Forest Akers East, led by junior Natalie Lloyd, who had a 197 score, which was 51st individually. Anna Lator put in a 218 and Jenna Gates put up 224. Josie Schmidt, a sophomore from St. Louis who qualified as an individual, shot 212.

Midland Dow finished 17th in Division 2 at Bedford Valley at Battle Creek, led by senior Abbey Ieuters 205, which was 82nd overall. Junior Abby Wilson was 86th with a 211, and freshman Kylie Keefer was 9th. With 93rd place, junior Abbie Wilson finished 87th, followed by freshman Abigail Wilson who finished with an 212.

Midland Dow finished third in the Division 2 boys tennis state finals in Holland, tied for third with 20 points to tie Okemos. Birmingham Groves was first with 27 points to surpass Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern with 26 points.

Dows No. 1 doubles team of Thomas Ladwein and Aaron Li advanced to the state final before losing to Blake Discher and Alex Prather of Grosse Pointe South.

Shubhan Nagarkar and Vishagen Karthikeyan, the No. 3 doubles team of Shuby Naguerkar, Joaquin Argibay, Logan Yu, and the no. 2 singles Joquim Arriban, No 2. 4 single Logan Yo, as well as the #3 double team Shuban Nagkar et Vischagen Carthikyan all reached the semifinals before falling.

Saginaw Nouvel finished 15th with three points and Chesaning was 18th, with two points, in the Division 4 meet in Ann Arbor. Traverse City St. Francis won the Division 4 title.
