A 19-year-old New Jersey man was found dead in a wooded area following slayings Saturday evening in Monroe County, according to state police.
At 11:18 p.m., troopers responded to reports of multiple shots fired. Saturday at the intersection of Gingerbread Lane and Arrowhead Lane in Middle Smithfield Township in the area of Middlesmithfield Village. At 12:15 a.m. Jaheem Keith Alston, 19, of Paterson, was found dead in a wooded area next to sand, police said.
Alston suffered gunshot wounds and the case is being investigated as a homicide, police said. Its unclear what led to the incident. State police said additional information would be released at a later date so it wouldnt jeopardize the investigation.
The Monroe County District Attorneys Office and the Monroe county Coroner s office were also on the scene. The investigation is being handled by the Pennsylvania State Police Stroudsburg Troop N Major Case Team and Monroe County District Attorneys Office.
